The Journey...
As a Microbrand collector I was always on the lookout for something new. But for every cool and innovative design, I’d see another 5 boring heritage clones and wonder why people didn't do something more interesting.
One day I was making a coffee in the office when a colleague started talking about watchmaking and modding.
I've always been a designer and builder - from furniture to combat robots - and watchmaking was a natural evolution of that desire to create. I threw myself into it, making watches for family and friends, and as fundraisers for clubs I was involved with.
Then fate intervened; I left my corporate job to spend time caring for my elderly parents. Finding myself with a lot of free time I started exploring designs that called to me - the designs which pushed the envelope of what you could fit in a watch case, and prototyping what I thought might be achievable.
I talked to a dozen other brand founders, and got the conviction I needed; There is a place for interesting sculptural watches that are as much wearable art as they are time pieces. And rather than run away from the complexity of my vision, I decided to embrace it.
With that, Laneway Watch Company was born to bring these ideas to the world.
I can't wait to share them with you.
